New Training Available from National Apartment Association

by Maureen Lambe on

You are probably already familiar with the National Apartment Association Education Institute’s (NAAEI) CAM, CAMT, NALP, CAS, IROP and CAPS professional designations. Each provides a great way to build on your industry knowledge and to demonstrate your expertise to others in the profession.

What you may not realize is that NAAEI also offers more than 40 online courses and webinars. They cover a wide range of industry-specific topics that include fair housing, lock bumping, electrical maintenance and repair and integrated pest management. Some of these webinars are occasionally offered “live,” but all are available 24/7 on NAAEI’s website so that you can take the courses at your convenience.

We also are in the process of launching three new online courses that cover three very different areas. Part of this addition to our course library includes the Credential for Green Property Management™ (CGPM™), which educates participants about the green operational issues facing our industry. This is our newest credential program. Coursework covers topics such as green building principles, energy and water efficiency, alternative energy sources and Energy Star and WaterSense programs. The course shows building owners, developers or property management professionals how to “go green” on the budget they have available.

The other two new courses we now offer include:

  • Supplier Success: You may have read about this course in my column that appeared in the November 2011 of UNITS Magazine. At that time, the course was part of a pilot project we conducted in Dallas over the summer. Since that time, we have decided to roll it out as an online course available to anyone. The course covers topics such as understanding the economic impact of the multifamily housing industry, identifying financial decision-makers, positioning products/services based on the goals of an apartment community and defining the different types of multifamily housing. The course is a prerequisite for the Certified Apartment Supplier (CAS) designation.
  • Pool Operator Primer™ Online Course: People taking this online course can improve their knowledge of pool and spa operation and management. Topics covered include how to effectively operate a pool/spa, reducing risk to users and employees and the regulatory guidelines regarding pools and spas. Students taking the course also may choose to take the Pool Operator Fusion™ Classroom Course, which is the final step toward earning the Certified Pool Operator (CPO®) Certification.

These courses are great additions to the library of training opportunities we offer. We are constantly on the lookout for new issues affecting the industry so that we can develop materials and training that enable those people working in multifamily housing to stay current with the industry and effectively perform their jobs.

The National Apartment Association (NAA) is America’s leading advocate for quality rental housing. NAA’s mission is to serve the interests of multifamily housing owners, managers, developers and suppliers and maintain a high level of professionalism in the multifamily housing industry to better serve the rental housing needs of the public.  http://www.naahq.org
